- Akshar-Amrit is a quest to transcribe cultural knowledge and practices into teachable modules of knowledge.
Akshar in Sanskrit means "Alphabet" and Amrita means "Nectar". Akshar Amrit's mission is to find the "nectar" of Knowledge embedded in aspects of world cultures. Akshar Amrit is involved in teaching Math and Languages to children by identifying Mathematical and Scientific knowledge that underlie cultural aspects and develop teaching curriculum from it.
Akshar-Amrit is comprised of three groups

- Game Developers - Develop Education based Games
- Parents & Students
Experts are invited to be part of a select online community, to foster knowledge sharing and discuss how cultural and traditional knowledge can be used to develop new curriculum. Our Experts come from many fields - Ethno-Maths, linguistics, Mathematicians, Statistics & Modeling, Languages and Culture. Registered Experts at Akshar-Amrit have tools to brainstrom ideas, Conduct Online Meetings with other Experts, Develop and Teach Courses Online and Blogs and Discussion Forums. Game Developers have skills in developing online games using Adobe Flash and Math and Science engines to develop games. These online games translate traditional games to an online multi-player gaming environment. Game Developers work with Experts to ideate, story board and synthesize new games. These games have a central educational theme and also preserve the cultural authenticity when based on a cultural design or concept.
Teachers present the curriculum developed by the experts in an online format and coach learning outcomes from the games to students. Teachers also teach languages in an unique interactive game based approach along with traditional lesson plans in an online community based approach.
Parents & Students Special supplimentary curriculum that is developed by the experts is either taught directly by these experts or by teachers specially trained to teach this curriculum. These courses are taught either by an individual expert or a team of experts. The aim of this unique supplimentary curriculum is to impart culture specific knowledge in a fun and interactive manner. This way, students have the academic learning outcomes reinforced in a fun and practical manner. Also, students will have access to online games, developed by the game developers interacting with the experts, that have learning concepts embedded as THE core theme. Akshar Amrit is open to all interested Parents & Students. Initially, Akshar Amrit intends to provide a unique curriculum based training in Maths and training in Indian languages in an unique curriculum designed for the Indian diaspora. We plan to grow to include all the world cultures in our curriculum.
